Nivendra Uduman is a trained Counselling Psychologist and Psychotherapist. He started his career in Psychology with a B.A.Honours Degree at Christ University, Bangalore, India. He then returned to Sri Lanka and worked at the National Council for Mental Health- Sahanaya as a counsellor for four months before he joined Samutthana (The King’s College London Resource Centre for Trauma, Displacement and Mental Health) as a voluntary project coordinator for a period of six months.
He then began pursuing a postgraduate degree in Counselling Psychology at Christ University, Bangalore. His placements were at an addiction rehabilitation centre and at two secondary schools and he provided individual and group therapy at these institutions under the supervision of a Clinical Psychologist.
Nivendra also received training in Cognitive Analytical Therapy and Cognitive Behavioural Therapy during his postgraduate degree. He returned to Sri Lanka in May, 2014 and joined Samutthana once again as their Senior Technical Officer. Besides that being his full time job, he also lectures at the International College of Business and Technology and at the National Institute of Social Development. He is also a visiting lecturer at the Sri Lanka Foundation.
Nivendra also has a private practice as a therapist at the Consortium of Humanitarian Agencies where he sees individuals and couples for psychotherapy. He has experience working with people who have difficulties with depression, anxiety, trauma (sexual abuse, domestic violence), and he helps couples with relationship and marital problems. Another area of interest is working with the LGBTIQ community, helping them with transitions, relationship conflicts and also with gender and sexuality related issues. His preferred therapeutic orientation is Cognitive Behavioural Therapy and he has also had basic training in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing.
